Interview Buddy isn’t picking up audio
If Interview Buddy doesn’t seem to be picking up any audio, the most common reason is that you’re testing the app alone. The desktop app is designed to detect audio from the interviewer only — not from your microphone — so if no one else is speaking, the app won’t produce any output.
This doesn’t mean the app is broken: Interview Buddy works as expected during actual interviews, when the interviewer is on the call and speaking. If you want to verify that the app is working, the best way is to test it in a real interview-like setup with another person speaking.
Compatibility issues with my browser or OS
Interview Buddy is currently available on Windows and macOS. We recommend running your interview calls through the web browser version of Zoom or Microsoft Teams whenever possible (see “Supported video conferencing platforms” for details on why).
Responses are slow or delayed
If Interview Buddy's suggestions feel delayed or take too long to appear, the cause is almost always network-related:
Turn off your VPN if you have one active — this is the most common cause.
Switch to a different Wi-Fi network or try your mobile hotspot to rule out connection issues.
Restart your computer after making network changes so the app picks up the new connection cleanly.
The transcription is picking up the wrong words
If the transcription shows unrelated words or phrases, this is usually caused by background noise, audio quality, or accent — not a bug. To improve accuracy:
Sit in a quiet room with minimal background noise.
Use headphones or earphones for clearer audio input.
Speak clearly and at a steady pace.
Occasional misrecognition is expected, similar to how a person might mishear a word in a noisy room. We're continuously working on improving transcription accuracy.
I'm seeing a subscription screen instead of the app
This usually means you're signed into the wrong account. Log out, sign back in with the email associated with your subscription, and verify the plan is active on that account.
I'm getting an authentication error
Authentication errors are almost always caused by network or VPN interference. Try these steps in order:
Turn off your VPN if one is active.
Switch to a different Wi-Fi network or your mobile hotspot.
Restart your computer after making the change.
My resume won't upload
Interview Buddy only supports PDF format for resume uploads. If your resume is in Word (.docx), an image, or another format, convert it to PDF before uploading.
The app is behaving unexpectedly or missing features
This usually means you're running an outdated version. To fix it:
Uninstall Interview Buddy completely.
Download the latest version from the official Interview Buddy website only — avoid third-party download sources.
