How Interview Buddy works during a live interview

During a live interview, Interview Buddy listens to the interviewer and provides real-time assistance to help you answer questions more confidently. The app runs in the background on your desktop and is invisible to screen sharing, so the interviewer or any other participants won’t see it if you’re asked to share your screen.

Keep in mind that Interview Buddy only detects audio from the interviewer, not from your microphone. This is by design, and it’s why testing the app alone won’t produce any output — the app needs someone else speaking (the interviewer) to start providing assistance.

Connecting Interview Buddy to your interview call

Once you've downloaded and installed the desktop app, here's how to set up a new session for your interview:

  1. Open the app on your computer.

  2. Click "New Session" to start setting up your interview.

  3. Add a title for the session. This helps keep the transcription of each interview stored separately, so you can easily find and review them later.

  4. Upload your resume. Interview Buddy will use it to tailor its suggestions to your background and experience.

  5. Paste your Notes and Context. This is where you add information about the call — such as the job description, company details, specific prompts, or any instructions you'd like the AI to follow. Everything you write here is used directly to generate your responses, so be clear and specific to get the most relevant suggestions.

  6. Choose your response style. Select whether you'd prefer short answers (concise, to-the-point suggestions) or detailed answers (longer, more elaborated responses).

  7. Choose between automatic and manual answers. Enable the automatic answers toggle if you want Interview Buddy to generate responses on its own as the interviewer speaks. If you prefer more control, leave it off and use manual mode — this way you can trigger a response only when you want one.

Once you've completed these steps, Interview Buddy is ready to listen and assist you during your live interview.

After the interview

When your interview ends, click the "Stop" button to end the session and save all the information from your interview. This step is important — without it, the session won't be properly saved and you won't be able to access the feedback or transcription afterward.

Once the session is saved, you'll receive feedback that includes:

  • What you did well during the conversation.

  • Areas where you can improve for future interviews.

  • A full transcription of the interview.

Your past sessions remain available for you to revisit at any time, and stay there until you decide to delete them.

When reviewing a past session, you'll find two main views:

  • Summary: an overview of the interview and the feedback generated for that session.

  • Chat: a window where you can ask follow-up questions about the interview. The AI will answer based on the summary and the full transcription, so you can dig deeper into specific moments, clarify feedback, or explore how you could have answered differently.
