When you complete the form, you're asked to select your work authorization status for the locations where you want to work. This answer affects your applications in two ways.
How your answer is used
It filters and applies to eligible jobs. Auto Apply only matches you with jobs you're eligible for based on your selected status. For example, if you select H-1B in the United States, you won't be matched with jobs restricted to US citizens or permanent residents. Depending on your application mode, the tool will also apply to those jobs on your behalf — automatically in Auto mode, and for Strong Match and Top Match jobs in Hybrid mode.
It's used to answer related questions on applications. Many employers ask about work authorization directly in their application forms — questions like "Are you legally authorized to work in this country?" or "Will you require visa sponsorship?" Auto Apply uses your selected status to answer these questions on your behalf, consistently across every application.
Choosing the right option
The options available depend on the country you selected. In the United States, for example, you can choose from options like US Citizen, Permanent Resident, H-1B, H-4 EAD, OPT, TN (USMCA), or Not yet authorized. Other countries have their own equivalent options.
Select the option that best reflects your current legal work situation. Being accurate here matters — an incorrect selection can lead to either missing eligible jobs, or being matched with jobs you can't legally take.
Updating your work authorization
If your status changes — for example, your visa is approved, you gain permanent residency, or your OPT expires — you should update your work authorization in your profile so Auto Apply reflects your current situation.
To update it, open your profile and find the work authorization question under the country you selected. Save your changes, and Auto Apply will use the updated status on all future matches and applications.
