How does Interview Buddy work?

Interview Buddy is a desktop app (Windows and macOS) that supports you in real time during live job interviews. It listens to the interviewer and provides on-the-go assistance so you can answer questions more confidently. It's designed to be invisible to screen sharing, so the interviewer won't see it if you're asked to share your screen. Important: the app only detects audio from the interviewer, not from your microphone — so testing it alone won't produce any output. From Settings, you can configure your default profile (job interview, sales call, negotiation, or business meeting), add details like experience level and industry, and pick a language.

Does Interview Buddy work with Zoom?

Yes, Interview Buddy works with Zoom — but the recommendation is to run Zoom in your web browser rather than the desktop app. The reason: Zoom's default behavior is to show all open windows on screen unless you disable that setting in the configuration, which could expose the app. Microsoft Teams is also supported, and the same browser recommendation applies as a precaution against future changes. Interview Buddy itself runs on Windows and macOS.

Can I use Interview Buddy as a real-time copilot during a live interview?

Yes — that's exactly what Interview Buddy is built for. It runs in the background on your desktop during a live interview, listens to the interviewer, and provides real-time suggestions to help you answer questions more confidently. It's invisible to screen sharing, so other call participants won't see it. Keep in mind it only picks up the interviewer's audio, not yours, which is why testing it alone produces no output. Configure your profile (role, experience level, industry, communication style, language) in Settings before your call so suggestions are tailored to your situation.

What's the difference between the mock interview tool and Interview Buddy?

They cover different stages. Mock Interviews is for practicing before the interview — it generates a personalized interview based on a job and your resume, asks you questions one at a time in text, scores your answers, and gives feedback you can review on your own time. Interview Buddy is for during the live interview itself — it's a desktop app that listens to the interviewer and provides real-time suggestions while you're on the actual call with the employer. Short version: use Mock Interviews to rehearse, and Interview Buddy when the real conversation is happening.

Can I do a mock interview without a job posting?

No — a job posting is required to generate a mock interview. When you click New Job Interview, you must either select a job saved in your Job Board or paste a job description manually before clicking Generate. The AI uses the job posting together with your selected resume to tailor the interview questions to the role.

Can I redo a mock interview I already finished?

Completed mock interviews remain available in the Mock Interviews panel — you can click View on any past session to revisit it, or delete it using the trash can icon. For practicing the same role multiple times, the recommended approach is to create a new mock interview for the same role or job posting and track how your answers improve across attempts. Sessions that disconnect before you click Finish Interview can't be resumed and must be restarted from the beginning.

What languages does Interview Buddy support?

Interview Buddy currently supports ten languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. You can set your preferred language in the Settings panel when configuring your default profile.

Can I use Mock Interviews and Interview Buddy together?

Yes — they're built for different stages of the same process. Use Mock Interviews to rehearse before an interview is scheduled: practice answers, get scored feedback, and refine your responses. Then use Interview Buddy during the live interview itself for real-time support while you're on the call. Many users prep with Mock Interviews for a few days, then run Interview Buddy in the actual conversation. Both are available on premium plans.
