Setting up Interview Buddy for your first interview

To get started with Interview Buddy:

  1. Download the desktop app from the website (Interview Buddy is available on Windows and macOS).

  2. Install and open the app on your computer.

  3. Open the Settings to configure your default profile, including the type of conversation (job interview, sales call, etc.) and other context like your experience level and role.

  4. Select your preferred language.

Once your profile is set up, you’re ready to use Interview Buddy in your next live interview.

Customizing prompts and context before an interview

Interview Buddy offers a wide range of settings so you can adapt its assistance to your specific situation. From the Settings panel, you can configure your default profile based on:

  • The type of conversation you're preparing for:

    • Job interview

    • Sales call

    • Negotiation

    • Business meeting

  • Additional context to fine-tune the suggestions, including your experience level, role or title, industry, and preferred communication style.

  • The language Interview Buddy will work in. It currently supports English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese.

Supported video conferencing platforms

We recommend running your interview through Zoom or Microsoft Teams in your web browser whenever possible.

Interview Buddy does work with the desktop version of both platforms, but:

  • Zoom shows all open windows on screen by default during screen sharing, unless you disable that setting in the configuration.

  • Microsoft Teams doesn’t currently show open windows this way, but the behavior could change in future updates.

Using the web browser version of either platform is the safest way to keep Interview Buddy hidden during screen sharing.

Keyboard shortcuts and controls

Interview Buddy includes a few keyboard shortcuts to help you control the app quickly during a live interview, without having to click around:

  • Ctrl + R — Reset the current answer. Use this when you want to clear the response shown on screen and start fresh.

  • Ctrl + Space — Send a screenshot. Useful when the interviewer shares something visual (a coding challenge, a diagram, a document) that you'd like Interview Buddy to take into account when generating a response.

  • Ctrl + Enter — Trigger a manual answer. If you're using manual mode (or you simply want a new response on demand), this shortcut tells Interview Buddy to generate an answer based on what the interviewer just said.

We recommend getting familiar with these shortcuts before your first interview, so you can use them naturally without breaking your focus during the conversation.
