What to expect during a Mock Interview

After you click “Start,” your interview session will begin. Here’s what happens:

  • The system will ask you a series of interview questions, one at a time.

  • Type your answer in the text box displayed below each question.

  • After writing your response, click “Check Answer” to receive feedback, or click “Show Answer” to see an example answer for guidance.

  • When you click “Check Answer,” a “Your Score” section will appear with a score for your response, along with a “Feedback and Tips” section offering suggestions on how to improve.

  • After reviewing the feedback, click “Next Question” to continue.

  • On the final question, click “Finish Interview” to end the session.

Do I need a microphone or camera?

No. Mock Interviews is a text-based practice tool: you type your answers into the text box displayed below each question. No audio or video setup is required to complete a session.

Understanding your mock interview feedback

After you click “Check Answer” on any question, you’ll see two main pieces of feedback:

  • Your Score: reflects how strong your response was for that specific question.

  • Feedback and Tips: specific suggestions on how to improve your answer, including what worked, what didn’t, and what you could add or rephrase.

At the end of the session, you’ll also see a final section called “Advice for Your Actual Interview,” with action items and recommendations to keep in mind before your real interview.

How to use feedback to improve

To get the most out of your mock interview feedback, we recommend:

  • Reviewing your score and the “Feedback and Tips” section after every question instead of waiting until the end of the session.

  • Using “Show Answer” to compare your response with an example answer and identify what you may have missed.

  • Paying close attention to the “Advice for Your Actual Interview” section at the end of the session — it summarizes the most important action items for you to apply in your real interview.

  • Practicing the same role or job posting multiple times to track how your answers improve over different attempts.
