How the Profile and Resume tab works

In this article you’ll learn how to manage your resumes and profile information in AIApply, and why your resume is the main driver of your job matches.

Written by Sofía

The Profile and Resume tab in your Preferences is where you manage every resume on your account and the profile information Auto Apply uses to tailor applications. Keeping this up to date matters more than most users realize — job matching is driven primarily by your resume, not by your preferences.

Why your resume matters most for matching

Auto Apply uses your preferences (job titles, locations, salary, etc.) as filters, but the actual matching between you and a job is based on your resume. The system looks at your experience, skills, and background to decide which roles are a good fit — so an incomplete or outdated resume leads to weaker matches, even if your preferences are set perfectly.

If you’re not happy with the matches you’re getting, the first thing to check is your resume. Make sure it includes:

  • All relevant work experience, with clear titles and dates

  • Specific skills and tools you’ve used

  • Education, including languages and certifications

  • Anything else that reflects your current experience level and direction

Managing your resumes

The Manage your resumes section shows every resume on your account and lets you choose which one is used for your applications.

Auto-Customize

When Auto-Customize is on, we tailor your resume for each job before applying. You’ll see this toggle at the top of the Resumes section.

Your active resume

Right below the toggle, you’ll see which resume is currently in use. Two options appear by default:

  • Your Uploaded Resume — the resume file you’ve uploaded

  • AIApply Resume — a resume generated from the information in your profile

Only one is active at a time. You can switch between them using the Use this instead button.

Choose from your resumes

Below that, you’ll see a list of every resume on your account. The one currently in use is marked Used by this role. You can switch to a different one by clicking Use this resume, or edit any of them.

Adding a new resume

At the bottom of the list, you can:

  • Build a new resume from scratch using the Resume Builder

  • Upload Resume to add an existing file

  • Open Resume Builder to work on your profile-based resume

Auto-Customized Resumes

The Auto-Customized Resumes section shows the tailored versions of your resume that AIApply has created for each job you’ve applied to. Each tailored resume appears here automatically once an application goes out, so you can review what was submitted on your behalf.

Resume Information

The Resume Information section is where you enter and edit the structured information Auto Apply uses to build and tailor your resume. It covers:

  • Experience — your work history, including role titles, companies, dates, and descriptions

  • Education — degrees, institutions, dates, and areas of study

  • Languages — languages you speak and your proficiency level

  • Skills — specific skills and your level for each

  • References from previous employers — professional references you’d like to include

Keeping this information complete and current directly improves the quality of your matches and the resumes we tailor on your behalf. If your experience changes, update it here.
